Philips AD 5061/M4 Philips AD-5060/M4 :Efficiency level

Bericht door jimmycarlpalmer »

Hi guys,
I'm Italian, sorry if I can't speak your beatiful language.
I'd like to know if you know the efficiency level of the Philips AD 5060/M4 and of the Philips AD 5061/M4.
Please could you help me?
Thank you in advance anda best regards from Italy!
Ciao!

Hi Jimmycarlpalmer,

No problem, I am not able to speak Italian..

Checking old stuff, I can find some info for AD5061M4. Specs from 1980 were stating sweep voltage 3,2V for AD5061M4, resulting 94-96 dB average.
So I asume approximately efficiency level will be approximately 94 dB/ 2,83V. (=2W due 4 Ohm impedance)

Best regards,

Hi Pjotr,

Just a question. Did you observe Philips is showing the sound curves for majority of speakers at 96 dB sound pressure and is specifying the sweep voltage needed to achieve that? For AD5061M4 they specified 3,2V needed to achieve 96dB sound pressure. That is 2,5-3W. So no 1W.

BTW, I was ignoring the peaks. Also because aging of this speaker (approximately 45 years?) I expect 94 dB average at 2,83V will be more likely.

It is just what the databook says. And yes it is an oldie but with ferrite magnets that doesn't fade like Alnico magnets.

I believe you still missed my point. Philips is showing curve at "Operating Power". See terms and defininations at page 20.

So yes you are right for 96 dB in databook for AD5061M4.

However databook is showing for most of speakers curves at 96 dB (at Operating Power). But sweep voltage is to achief 96 dB is depending of tested speaker. For sweep voltage at AD5061M4 see page 174.

Overigens heb ik mijn jeugd met zowel AD7063M4 en AD5061M4 geknutseld. Leuk spul, maar haalt geen 96-98 dB.

thank you all for your kind replies :proost:
Philips, in the datasheet, says that the AD-5061/M4 needs 2 watt to get an efficiency level of 90 dB...so it's impossible for these wide-range loudspeakers to reach 96 dB with 1 Watt.
They are not high efficiency loudspeakers at all.
thank you very much, guys!

Note that sensitivity in dB@2.83V (or whatever value) is not the same as efficiency in dB/W. Makes it a bit confusing to compare.

Hi!
the datasheet says "90 db/1m with 2 watt"...of course you're right, this is the efficiency level, not the sensitivity level...anyway, it's not a medium-high efficiency speaker...it seems more a "normal-medium" efficiency speaker. Do you agree? I'm almost ignorant in these things...you're opinion is welcome [-o<

Yes of course. Quite standard those days for this kind of units.

Hi,

I am reading the datasheet AD 5061M4 as following:
1) For 96 dB average sound pressure 3,2V is needed.
2) recalculating to standard 2,83V will provide approximately 94-95 dB sound pressure
3) 2,83V with 4 Ohm impedance is resulting in 2W, in contrast 8 Ohm, like f.e. AD5061M8
4) 2 V with 4 Ohm impedance is providing 1W and approx. 91-92 dB sound pressure.

I don't know you'll consider that as normal medium, but I believe you could consider as pretty medium-high efficiency, because most units will just reach 90 dB/W. And this speaker is a little ahead.

Also due 4 Ohm impedance the sensitivy is increased even a little higher compared to 8 Ohm units, due low voltage is needed.

Best regards,
Tweety
