ClarityCap vs. other brands
ClarityCap Low series than MR...
i find MR wonderfull
I heard that the series below the mr, do not sound good, because have dark timbre.
what are your experiences ?
in review of tony gee, he says they are warm/dark
SA
"Sound: The Clarity Cap range has an overall similarity in tonal balance, going up the range you gain a bit in clarity and spatiality. I find the SA to be neutral with a slightly warmish presentation but also a bit closed-in. Compared to the Clarity Cap PX definition and separation are better, the stereo-image is also little larger. I did find the top end to be slightly rolled-off, not that they lacked detailed but on some recordings I wanted a fraction more transparency - but all in all still very nice. On the downside the "S" and "T" in vocals can be a bit plasticy, this is probably due to the lack in transparany in the top octave, making the octaves below sound a little masked. Making a capacitor using about 90% Clarity Cap SA and about 10% Mundorf Supreme works very well, this tends to open up the top end just nicely without altering anything else.
ESA
"Sound: Similar in overall character to the Clarity Cap SA but with more clarity and therefore a fraction more spatial. Like the SA they could still do with a bit more transparency but with a small bypass capacitor this can be improved. The ESA also has a slightly warmish presentation and also benefits from making a total value using about 90% Clarity Cap ESA and about 10% Mundorf Supreme. This opens up the top end just nicely without altering anything else. Good overall qualities and an upgrade from the standard Clarity Cap SA."
do you compared ESA with other caps ?, such as mundorf supreme of jantzen superior-z

Re: ClarityCap vs. other brands
No I did not compare those.
Please note I am talking about S/G/O, the S/O I do not really like that much.
Best regards,
Walt

In my opinion the S/G/O gives much more detail and super fine high.

Re: ClarityCap vs. other brands
I think Tony is One of very few, mayby the only one, who compared them all...
Why not compare them yourself or just stick with the MR?

Re: ClarityCap vs. other brands
You are right, but this is also a matter of taste. The Mundorf sounds very natural overall, but has a slightly exaggerated top end. Whether this is a problem is also depending on the tweeter you use. If you do not like overexcited, you should try the RIKE S-cap, it could be just what you want and the price/performance ratio is superb.Soundmap schreef:s/g/o is overexcited, not natural to me.
To come back on the lower end ClarityCap, I know the SA well. It sounds grainy when compared with the RIKE S-cap.
Re: ClarityCap vs. other brands
You should not talk about Tony like that, one of the most upright persons I know.

I know rike and they are great, but the price compared to SA is much higher
SA 4.7uF costs 7 Euros against the 47 for rike.
I was trying to understand which are antagonists of claritycap SA and ESA
does anyone has done this comparison ?
For example, ESA vs Jantzen Superior ESA or z vs Mundorf Supreme basic

English is not your native language, i can see it in the way you write.
Which language is your native language?

When you seek alternatives for the SA for the same price that is difficult.
Instead of the ESA you could try Obbligato Premium Gold, which is in the same price range and sounds really good to my taste. A/B compared to the RIKE it sounds rough, but well, that one is more than twice the price. When you do not know better, it is very easy to live with the Obbligato Premium Gold.
I am not fond of the Jantzen Z-caps. The superior is dull and the silver is too agressive in the top end. Sound stage is unimpressive for both.

I corrected, okay?jeroen_d schreef:Maybe I understood you wrong when you asked "maybe for the money?"
well, you mentioned the Jantzen and the obbligatojeroen_d schreef:When you seek alternatives for the SA for the same price that is difficult.

could you write me the tonal differences between:
ESA vs Obbligato
ESAvs Jantzen Superior Z
SA vs Obbligato
SAvs Jantzen Superior Z
thank you for your patience.
Re: ClarityCap vs. other brands
I cannot help you further I'm afraid because I never listened to the ESA caps. The SA's I know and they are good for the price but not in the same league as the Jantzen and the Obbligato. Tony Gee has already written down the differences. You can have a different taste, leading to another ranking based on personal preference, but what he describes about the sound is correct.
Re: ClarityCap vs. other brands
Why not try what Tony suggests? 90% SA and 10% mundorf supreme? I'm currently playing the DD8 MkII of tony's site using a twist to that. I'm using 10 superior Z, and quite happy having it.
Of course if monny was not an issue I would probably throw some Rike-S in, but considering the 22 and 15uF values that would brake my bank.
I also discovered the ERO KP1832 as a bypass cap and it is marvelous what it does to the top end worth a recommendation.
But as stated before by me and others...only way to find out of yourself is try something yourself... It's a pitty but true....
