Ik was even de Hifi News & Record Review aan het doorneuzen en wat ziet mijn oog: he leuk, een tangband 1335 titanium! Even checken of t ook echt is.

Nu begint het toch echt te kriebelen (zoals je een koortslip voelt aankomen).
15W ja dat is hem toch echt. Hij zit niet eens netjes verzonken in de baffle.

Dat minimalistische concept is heel mooi en kan ik een heel eind in meegaan. Ik denk ook zeker wel dat het goed klinkt. Maar moet er dan zo'n prijskaartje aanhangen? Is dat om serieus genomen te worden? Als de eigenaar er achter komt wat het eigenlijk is zal hij zich vast behoorlijk genomen voelen. Shoot yourself in the foot noemen ze dergelijke marketingstrategie toch?

Affirm Audio, formerly known as Maxxhorn, showed the larger of their single-driver, true Tractrix horn loudspeakers. Based on design work done by Paul Voigt, the Elation ($9995) has a 10 foot folded Tractrix horn built into the cabinet. This speaker is the result of 18 years of experimentation and research. The result is a 99dB efficient, full-range speaker. Not small at 165 pounds each (and capable of additional mass loading via an internal cavity), they use a custom made driver. If I had been told there was a woofer inside the cabinet, I would not have been the least surprised. The bass was that good.

Ach bijna niemand op de wereld kent deze drivers als losse merken en al helemaal niet wat zo'n drivertje los kost. Laat staan de kosten van het maken van een kast/filter.

Probeer maar eens een mooie set zelfbouw speakers te verkopen. 9 v/d 10x zal je deze zelfs ONDER de kostprijs moeten verkopen, terwijl als er een naampje op staat en een "merk" achter zit, dan kan je het 5-10 voudige vragen.

Neemt niet weg dat dit absoluut bespottelijke prijzen zijn...

De prijzen zijn inderdaad vrij hoog ja. Nou zat ik nog even door te lezen en kwam deze showreport van de CES 2009 tegen: http://www.stereotimes.com/CES2009LB.shtml

Like most audiophiles, I typically return from an audio show giddy with excitement, my mind awash with images ... of speakers, cartridges, tubes and the like. But this year... I found myself strangely subdued, keenly aware that the show was far less enjoyable than I had hoped.

But the bottom line is, no more than a handful of the systems I heard ticked my fancy. I’d like to say that this was a fluke but in truth it was not totally unexpected, as my dissatisfaction with “mainstream” audio has been building for the past few years.

So what was the cause of my dissatisfaction? It was not so much what the systems did, as what they didn’t do - they bore little resemblance to live music.

While there are undoubtedly numerous sonic attributes necessary for reproduced music to sound like the real thing, the aspect most obviously deficient was energy. In simple terms, most of the systems lacked excitement. Even some of the large, very expensive speakers, including those from manufacturers whose products have graced the covers of the glossy audio magazines, didn’t cut it for me. Though they’re big and powerful, full-range (or nearly so), and have what is undoubtedly relatively flat frequency response, the dang things can’t get out of the way of the music. Rather than being a conduit to the music, they are a roadblock. To be sure many of them are excellent transducers of sound, but they don’t allow music to flow naturally, in a way that allows for an emotional connection. It is probably not a coincidence that these loudspeakers are of low efficiency/sensitivity, and it is similarly not a coincidence that the systems I did enjoy at CES were of high(er) efficiency, but that is a discussion for another day.

Adding fuel to the fire was the price of the gear. For the record, I am not a prude when it comes to the cost of audio gear; my own gear is far from inexpensive, and I appreciate fully that the design and manufacture of quality audio gear is not cheap. But the cost of some of the gear was obscene. For example, I heard a pair of speakers manufactured in Europe which retail for $20,000. That may not seem all that expensive until you factor in that they sounded as if they were covered by a blanket.

Another RMAF repeat favorite was the Maxxhorn with Feastrex driver. This single driver, back-loaded speaker delivers good dynamics, fantastic coherence, and a smooth and detailed presentation. Pricey at about $28,000, but very enjoyable to listen to.

pleasant discoveries were the Acoustic Technologies Classic Series loudspeaker, and ... The former, with a retail price of only $2,450, uses a single 3” titanium cone speaker in a small footprint, lightweight cabinet. They of course have no cross-over, and displayed astounding dispersion, sounding good from virtually any position in the room. Paired with Pass amplification and an Ayon CD player, they were coherent, had good presence and surprisingly good bass, given the obvious limitations of the driver size. All-in-all, an excellent addition to the all-too small world of commercially available single-driver speakers.

Grappig: hij keert zich af van belachelijk dure, matig klinkende spullen en gaat vervolgens bovengenoemde en een duurder broertje van de andere aanprijzen. Terwijl wij juist weten dat wat er in zit helemaal niet zo duur is.

Dat zet toch aardig je denkwereld op zijn kop!
PS: Ik denk dat hij gelijk heeft. Het komt aardig overeen met mijn ervaringen op shows en het bevestigd weer eens mijn idee waar ik mee bezig ben.

Ach ja, hier op een zelfbouwforum kun je hier nog echt om lachen, maar eigenlijk zou dit niet moeten natuurlijk. Argeloze miljonairs worden zo hun centjes afhandig gemaakt.

Je mag het bijna niet zeggen, maar ik vind een dermate verschil tussen prijs en het geleverde bijna oplichting (zet er BIJNA bij, je bent natuurlijk altijd zelf verantwoordelijk voor wat je aanchaft....)

Maargoed, hier krijg je nog wat voor je geld. Je hebt ook lakken die bizar duur zijn. Check het fourm maar eens, je lacht je een breuk.....

Grappig hoor, die prijs.
Dan had ik mijn oude huis dus voor 2500 extra kunnen verkopen want er zitten daar twee stuks van die titanium speakers in het plafond van de badkamer gemonteerd, en ja, ook zonder filter (verlaagd plafond, dus infinite baffle, met in de hoek een koof die als TL pijp fungeerd die dus onderaan open is) .

Je kan ook als beginnend "fabrikant" 2 dingen doen:

- veel voor weinig bieden (XTZ, AV123)
- of weinig voor veel (zie de voorbeelden hier boven).

Aangezien de meeste beginners niet meteen hun productie naar het verre oosten kunnen verplaatsen, kiezen ze in de regel voor optie 2. Lekker makkelijk, verkoopt het niet, dan ach, geen man overboord, want ze kosten aan productie een paar 100 euro (als je de kasten professioneel laat bouwen). Je zegt je URL op en klaar

Overigens is dit wel de manier hoe je het commercieel zou moeten aanpakken, zo veel mogelijk verdienen met zo min mogelijk moeite/kosten.

Vast wel, ik denk dat ze er een flink groot bedrijf van kunnen maken en adviseer ze dan ook om vast een bijbehorend bedrijfspand te kopen. Het is aardig als het werkt maar het werkt zelden zo.
